LIBERATION LECTIONARY - CHRISTMASTIDE

Ujamaa - Cooperative Economics

“The concept of Black Power is a call for Black people in this country to unite, to recognize their heritage, to build a sense of community. It is a call for Black people to define their own goals, to lead and support their own organizations.” Stokely Carmichael

Habari Gani?

Ujamaa! Cooperative Economics: To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.

Cooperative economics means shared work and wealth, economic self-reliance, generosity in community, togetherness & family, supporting Black businesses, and advocating reparations. The Nsibidi symbol associated with today’s principle represents this with two interlocking half circles. Our Blackness brings wholeness when we live and work, grow and strive together.

Today’s Scripture: Acts 2.44-45

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need
